Beginning her Career in Technical Writing

After getting her BA in English from Western Michigan University, Kate Miller-Wilson began working as a technical writer for Prima Communications in Schoolcraft, Michigan, a small company providing writing services for the pharmaceutical industry.  In her three years of work with Prima, Kate learned to manage her time effectively, create content of the highest quality, and use a variety of software programs.

The management of Prima considered Kate an asset to the company and promoted her several times during her employment with them.  By the time she left Prima, Kate had dabbled in project management, trained other technical writers, and created hundreds of documents including standard operating procedures, training documents, pharmaceutical validation documents, equipment specifications, project documentation, and many others.

Moving on to Software Test Script Writing

In 2004, Kate and her husband left Michigan and moved to the Twin Cities.  There, Kate worked for two years as a software test script writer for Analysts International, a consulting firm serving Medtronic.  As a software test script writer, Kate managed the software testing related to import and export of medical devices for several generations of a new software rollout. 

Kate was well-liked at Medtronic and Analysts International and very much enjoyed her time there.  She further honed her skills of delivering high-quality documents under aggressive deadlines, and she learned a lot about SAP and software testing in general.  She received increasing levels of responsibility during her time at Medtronic.

Making the Transition to Freelance Writing

In February 2007, Kate and her husband welcomed their first child, Eian.  It is important to them as a family that Kate stay home to take care of Eian, so Kate gradually began taking on freelance writing projects.  She finds the work fulfilling and enjoys having something creative to do during the day.

Kate has been submitting daily blog entries to DFW Elite Auto Rental’s Exotic Auto Rental Blog for nearly a year.  She also writes content for websites, edits resumes, writes articles on a variety of topics, and provides copy-editing services.  She enjoys this work very much.

Kate Miller-Wilson and her husband live near the Twin Cities with their son, Eian, standard poodle, Emma and gray tiger cat, Tess.
